Last week ago several Good Neighbors met and formed a new organization, Save Jackson Park, to fight the proposed golf course in Jackson Park and South Shore.

In the past eight days we have:

--Created a website -- savejacksonpark.com -- that will be updated and expanded in the days and weeks ahead. How we feel about the golf course is made clear on our home page.

--Created a paper petition which is already in circulation, with members actively gathering signatures. When we have achieved a critical mass of signed petitions, we will deliver them in their plump and weighty glory to relevant parties (mayor’s office, Chicago Park District, alderman) with press invited, and hopefully dozens of escorts who support the cause.

--Established a meeting with Chicago Parks Golf Alliance co-founder Brian Hogan.

--Had our first letter to the editor published in the Hyde Park Herald (see this week’s issue, page 4) which has already been linked to by Friends of the Parks.

--Developed plans for further outreach and action.

Our next meeting is this Friday at 11:30 a.m.at Valois. All are welcome.

If you attend, you can learn the results of our meeting with Hogan, hear of our further plans for action, receive updates from members on our petition drive, hear about our plans for the creation of a series of educational maps as well as micro-meetings for members of the public interested in learning more about this issue and learning how you can help.

If you attend, you can help us. If you wish: You can sign our petition. You can take petitions with you to obtain further signatures. You can offer to host a coffee where your friends and neighbors can learn about the threats to Jackson Park. You can offer your own personal story of Jackson Park, why you love it and why you don’t want it blighted by the golf course, for publication on our web page. You can learn other ways to help. Or you can just
