The Collected Voices Film Festival will kickoff this week at the Silver Room, 1506 E. 53rd St., at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12.
Opening night for the four-day festival will explore the heart of Chicago through short narrative films that highlight the city and all its moving parts.
Featured films for Thursday night’s screening include, “No Bad News” by Michael Silberman; “Monogamish” by Carlton Daniel; “Exodus: Sounds of the Great Migration” by Lonnie Edwards; “Vine Culture” by Reginald Rice and “Blueprint for Bronzeville” by Tristan Hanson & Arlen Parsa.
Blueprint for Bronzeville displays the journey of three activists, the history of Bronzeville and segregation in Chicago and a local housing group’s mission to bring attention the neighborhood as the city sought to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The Collected Voices Film Festivals presents ethnographic documentary and fiction films combining both academia and art cinema. It is the only ethnographic film festival in Chicago.
