COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:

The 8th Annual Woodlawn Summit will feature interactive workshops and a brand new Education Resource Fair!The workshops allow all residents and contributors to collectively discuss the interests and priorities for the our community so that our voices are heard. In addition to the workshops, the Education Resource Fair is a great opportunity to interact with staff from local organizations, schools, and the University of Chicago, who will share valuable expertise and discuss resources for youth and adult education in Woodlawn. Details about this year's workshops are below.

WORKSHOP SESSIONS:

The Woodlawn community and our neighbors are all invited to actively participate in our group discussions.

Advocacy: Project Citizen

Facilitated by Jennifer Blackman, from the Illinois Center for Civic Education, this session will provide key information on how to monitor and inuence public policy. Participants will discuss issues in the community, research the problem, evaluate alternative solutions, develop a solution in the form of a public policy, and create a political action plan to enlist local or state authorities.

BUY-FIX-KEEP Your Home

Facilitated by Paula Grantt from Neighborhood Housing Service and Lisa Thompson, a Real Estate Broker, 21 S.G.R, this session is designed to help you participate in the planning for future and existing housing in Woodlawn. Join us for a special Woodlawn Housing Trolley Tour following the Summit at 12:30 p.m. Registration required.Please RSVP by March 16th. A Box Lunch will be provided.

Economic Development in Woodlawn: What's Going On Right Now?

The new Woodlawn Chamber of Commerce will lead this lively interactive session and share the regional economic outlook for Woodlawn and its surrounding communities. If you are interested in small business development, retail and housing projects, then this session is for you. You will hear from community experts on the exciting plans for Woodlawn and how you can get involved.

Safe Place Making - A Community Design Competition

Sustainability can be fun - and rewarding! Join Blacks in Green’s Naomi Davis and guests as they team up session participants to co-design an oasis of safety, beauty and beyond. This is the second session in a series called "The 16 Great Migration Gardens of West Woodlawn." Each garden design and its sculptures express one chapter of this great American story.

Washington Park Neighbors Forum

Washington Park residents unite! This session is designed for you to meet your neighbors and committed stakeholders to engage in the planning session for the inaugural Washington Park Community Summit. Modeled after the Woodlawn Community Summit, the Washington Park Summit will be designed by residents for residents to become civically engaged in the renaissance of the neighborhood.

Renew Woodlawn Housing Tour

Following the Summit a housing trolley tour showcasing Woodlawn properties for sale will take place at 12:30 pm AND 1:00 pm. Registration required. Please RSVP by March 16th. A Box Lunch will be provided.
