Dolores (Lorie) Rosenblum
Courtesy of CHPV Board Member Margaret Huyck
Our friend and companion in life died peacefully last night, succumbing to her ordeals with advanced breast cancer. She was living at The Apsley, an Assisted Living Facility in Manhattan, close to her family. While there, she founded a small poetry group, and discovered a small circle of women enthusiastic about reading and writing poetry. Attached is a recent accounting of that activity, and a copy of her poem about the mural in the 55th Street Viaduct which she wrote in Chicago.
I will long remember Lorie for our work sustaining the OWL (Older Women's Group) in Hyde Park, her accounts of vibrant participation in her two (or three?) book groups over decades, her adventures as a geriatric social worker; the course she crafted on the literature of the illness experience (meshing her earlier training in literature with her later social work education); her fights to combat serious hearing loss both personally and institutionally; her appreciation of fine martinis and fine dining; her love of women's art and beautiful scarves....
There will be a memorial service, on zoom. More opportunities to reflect on the ways she enhanced our lives.
