Overview of Artificial Intelligence with Tom Dietterich

Wednesday, September 10, 12–1pm Central via Zoom

Over the past 20 years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a routine, but mostly invisible part of our digital lives. For example, Google search, Netflix recommendations, and Google Maps all apply AI methods. But the release of ChatGPT gave everyone an easy way to interact in English (and many other languages) with a new kind of AI system, the Large Language Model (or LLM). Now LLMs are popping up everywhere in web search, shopping, and customer service.

This presentation will discuss the many flavors of AI and then focus on the new capabilities and dangers of LLMs.

OUR SPEAKER
Thomas Dietterich is Emeritus Distinguished Professor at Oregon State University who has devoted his career to research on machine learning. He is a past president of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (the leading professional society for AI research). He is the recipient of multiple awards for research contributions and for service to the scientific community.

Chicago Hyde Park Village's free Zoom Drop-In series is held every 2nd Wednesday of the month. All are welcome! Invite a friend!
