How we view aging affects how we invest in our communities and make policy, which means we need to hold a more realistic view of what aging looks like across varied life experiences. In this practical discussion about solutions to ageism, we highlight how we need to collaborate across sectors and broaden our understanding of aging to encompass the diverse realities of growing older in America.
Age-inclusion is the best way forward, and the best way to move beyond ageism is via belonging and collaboration. In an era of rapidly shifting resources and changing demographics, we must forge new partnerships and widen our networks. We have to build something better. Join our panelists to learn how we might build age-friendly systems through their experiences collaborating and building services that work for all.

 Participants will:

 • Hear from thought leaders working on cross-sector collaboration and implementing inclusion initiatives
 • Reflect on the possibilities for age-inclusive systems

 | | ASA Chicagoland Roundtable: Solo Aging: Challenges and Opportunities
Friday, October 10, 8:30–10:30am Central on ZoomProvided by Rush University and American Society on Aging
 Free; Register via Zoom

A growing number of older adults – about a quarter of baby boomers by 2034 – do not have children. Nearly 26 million Americans 50 or older already live alone, up from 15 million in 2000.  Coined “solo agers,” many older Americans do not have a life partner, children and/or family, by choice or by circumstance to provide support. How can aging services providers help? Join us as we explore the challenges and resilience of those aging alone from a variety of perspectives and offer concrete resources and recommendations to help bridge the gaps. Also joining our expert panel will be a speaker with lived experience as a solo ager.
