Chicago Area Villages Collaborative End-of-Life Series

Wednesday, October 15
4–5 via Zoom

Death can be a challenging topic to discuss. Many wonder why and how to prepare for it. In this presentation, you will hear about what a Death Doula is, why people benefit from the services provided, what a home funeral is, how to explore your legacy and the importance of preserving it. The work of a Death Doula is to assist individuals and families to prepare for end of life. Death Doulas have facilitated life-to-death transitions for both the dying and those left behind in all cultures since ancient times. The role of a Death Doula is to support and honor the wishes of a dying individual.

Services of a Death Doula include: Death Education, Consultation on All Aspects of Dying Except Medical, Funeral Arrangements (Traditional, Home, Green Burial), Referrals for Trusts and Wills, Advance Directive, Legacy, Caregiver Assistance, Sitting Vigil with the Dying Person, Obituary Drafting, Grief Counseling, Distribution of Possessions, Financial Inventory, Account Closures, Personal Inventory.

IN THE COMMUNITY
Students at Chicago Hyde Park Village offered tech assistance to older community members—helping them stay connected in an increasingly digital world. Incoming College students connect with Chicago civic leaders and join neighborhood service projects at annual Engage Chicago orientation

Strengthening our long partnership with the University of Chicago, CHPV was excited to participate again this year in the annual Engage Chicago student orientation event. In the first half of the day, CHPV Board President Inagrace Dietterich and Executive Director Lucas Livingston participated in panel discussions with other community leaders to welcome the incoming students. In the afternoon, CHPV hosted nearly 20 students for a day of service where they offered tech assistance for CHPV members and helped clean up outdated information in our 3rd party vendor Referral Database. Read more about it in the link above at the Office of Civic Engagement.

The Hyde Park-Kenwood Coalition for Equitable Community Development wants your input! Your feedback will help us better understand community needs and guide future planning and resource allocation. What are your thoughts on housing, safety, education, and other issues in our neighborhood? We've put together a quick survey. Please participate now!
