THERE'S STILL TIME TO GIVE THANKS |
Dear Friends,
For more than a decade, Chicago Hyde Park Village has been rewriting the story of aging. With your support, we’re proving that growing older can mean growing closer. Membership fees cover only about 20% of CHPV’s annual revenue. The rest depends on the generosity of people like you. Thanks to your support, CHPV continues to nurture a caring and connected community where older adults can live independently, stay engaged, and thrive at home in the neighborhoods they love.
Please give generously to help us continue to enrich the lives of older adults, families, and the community. With your support, you’re making a difference in the lives of our neighbors.
With my sincerest thanks,
Lucas Livingston, Executive Director

| | Fraud & Scams Targeting Older Adults with Lynne Perryman
Tuesday, December 2
2–3pm via Zoom
Presented by the Chicago Area Village Collaborative and hosted by CHPV
| | | Financial fraud targeting older adults has become so prevalent that it has been called the crime of the 21st century. Older adults are thought to have a significant amount of money sitting in their accounts, but it is not just wealthy older adults who are targeted. Low-income older adults are also at risk of financial abuse. Financial scams often go unreported or can be difficult to prosecute, so they are considered a low-risk crime. However, they are devastating to many older adults and can leave them in a very vulnerable position with no way to recoup their losses.
Lynne Perryman, Vice President and Control Manager at JPMorgan Chase, joins us to discuss this alarming topic and answers your burning questions. Learn how to recognize a financial scam or fraud, what to do and how to respond if you are targeted, and when and how to report scam or fraud.

November is National Native American Heritage Month. Throughout the year and especially in November we focus on the powerful contributions of Native Peoples in the United States. There are many ways to celebrate and honor Native Americans and the rich culture of the many indigenous tribes: educate ourselves about the histories of the many contributions of Native Americans, attend local events to support Indigenous Cultures, support Native owned businesses and artisans, visit museums, heritage centers, and historical sites, and commit to supporting the policies that impact equitable change in local and national organizations.
While we celebrate Native Americans' contributions to culture, art, education, public service, science, humanities, medicine, ecology, architecture, and many other areas of society, it is important to recognize the painful history inflicted upon the Native Peoples of America, as President Joe Biden affirmed in his 2024 Proclamation on National Native American Heritage Month: "our Nation’s failed policies of the past subjected generations of Native peoples to cruelty, violence, and intimidation. The forced removal of Native peoples from their homes and ancestral homelands; attempts to assimilate entire generations; and stripping of Indigenous peoples of their identities, cultures, and traditions are some of the darkest chapters of our Nation’s history." (National Archives)
