Bennie Currie, Hyde Park Convergence, & Teen Takeovers

Wednesday, June 10, 12–1pm Central via Zoom

Discover how a proactive neighborhood response can turn potential disruption into an excellent opportunity for community building.

Join CHPV for an upcoming Zoom presentation featuring Bennie Currie, community leader and founder of CollaBOOration. In response to the recent "teen takeover" phenomena—such as the March incident that left local vehicles damaged—Hyde Park neighbors, parents, and school staff successfully mobilized. By organizing a positive, visible, and non-confrontational adult presence on the streets, the community effectively maintained peace and "defanged" a subsequent gathering.

Learn about the Hyde Park Convergence initiative and its core principles:

• Commitment: How a visible presence of neighbors serves as a passive deterrent to undesirable behavior.
• Compassion: Welcoming visitors to our diverse community while leading safely by example.
• Communication: How to effectively spread the word and coordinate with your neighbors.

Get the practical "Safety Dos and Don'ts" of engagement. Together, we can strengthen community ties, keep our neighborhood livable, and ensure our streets remain safe and welcoming for everyone.

Chicago Hyde Park Village's free Zoom Drop-In series is held every 2nd Wednesday of the month. All are welcome! Invite a friend!

ASA Chicagoland Roundtable: Bridging Generations: A Conversation on Connection, Purpose, and Social Change

Friday, June 5
8:30–10:30am Central
Free;
Register via Zoom
Join Donna Butts and Ken Stern, authors and leaders in the field, for an engaging fireside chat exploring the power of connection across generations and sectors. Drawing on their extensive experience in media and nonprofit leadership, Butts and Stern will reflect on what it takes to build a more inclusive, connected society—especially in a time marked by growing social isolation. Through storytelling, the conversation will offer insights into fostering meaningful relationships and advancing intergenerational collaboration to transform aging services and strengthen community well-being.

Designed for professionals in aging, the discussion will explore ways to bring together younger and older generations, support family caregivers and grandfamilies, and shift organizational culture to value connection across the lifespan. Attendees will leave with practical ideas and inspiration to reimagine services that not only support older adults, but actively engage all generations as part of the solution.
