Update on CHPV's 4th on 5rd Parade Trolley!
Tuesday, July 4
10am for Gathering and Decorating
11am Parade Starts

Ride (march on wheels) with Chicago Hyde Park Village in our Trolley! Since our founding, CHPV has joined this annual 4th of July parade. It's a fun way to celebrate our values and community. Everyone is welcome.

To ride in CHPV's trolley, please confirm with Susan Alitto
(salitto@gmail.com; 773-485-3643).

Meet at CHPV's trolley parked along South Lake Park Avenue just south of 54th Street.

The trolley will launch for the parade from a parking space on South Lake Park Avenue just south of 54th St. We expect it to be there by 10am ready for decorating. We'll have banners, streamers and other decorations. The parade will launch at 11. We don't know where we will be in the lineup but we've asked for an early spot.

Please plan to arrive at the trolley no later than 10:30. If it's raining, at least it will be dry on the trolley! You are also welcome to walk beside the trolley. There may be opportunities to hop on or off the trolley.

Getting There:
  • If approaching from east north and south, enter from 53rd or 55th and Lake Park.
  • If approaching from west, enter from 54th Street or the north end of the Hyde Park Shopping Center Parking lot.
  • If you arrive by car, you might seek a space along 54th St between Kenwood/Nichols Park and South Lake Park Ave., which will be between the parade’s launch and end locations.
The parade will end approximately at noon at the 53rd Street entrance to Nichols Park, north of Murray School. 53rd Street should be open heading west from this point and will reopen in both directions to all traffic after the parade.

We expect this will be Chicago's biggest and best neighborhood parade!

GIVE A RIDE, MAKE A DAY
Become a CHPV Volunteer Driver!

Access to transportation is the number one concern for older adults nationwide, and rides are CHPV’s most frequently requested service. To keep this vital resource available to our members, we need more volunteer drivers! Learn more or contact us to volunteer.

  • What you’ll do: Drive members to medical appointments, grocery stores, or CHPV social events.
  • What you need: Your own vehicle, auto insurance, an up-to-date driver's license, and a willingness to offer a supportive arm or open a door. (Plus, volunteer mileage may be IRS tax-deductible!)
  • The impact: You keep our community connected and independent.
What our drivers are saying:

Driving has been a really rewarding experience for me. In addition to playing a part in Village's mission of allowing people to age in place, it has given me the opportunity to meet members of our community that I never would have met otherwise.
